Not all airport lounges are equal.

Which are the best airport lounges in the world?

Airport lounges are an excellent way to relax, unwind and recharge before a flight. Offering a peaceful and comfortable environment to escape the airport chaos. Some are exceptional, offering top-notch amenities that elevate the airport experience to a new level.

The Wing, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong International Airport

The Wing is one of the most luxurious airport lounges in the world. The lounge is on Level 7 in Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport. This lounge offers a range of amenities, including a full-service bar, shower facilities, a business centre, and a library. The lounge also has a fantastic restaurant serving some of the finest Chinese cuisine at the airport.

The lounge is for First Class Cathay Pacific passengers or Diamond members of the airline’s loyalty program. Access is also given to One World’s Emerald program members (the highest level member). A lounge pass is not available for this lounge without being a loyalty member.

The Pier, Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge, Hong Kong International Airport

The Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport is a luxurious lounge featuring a full-service bar, restaurant, and spa. The lounge also has private suites for passengers who need to catch up on sleep before their flight. The highlight of the lounge is its stunning design, which features a beautiful living wall. If you want to access this lounge, similar restrictions apply to the Wing Lounge. Also, this lounge closes at 00:30 every day.

Emirates First Class Lounge, Dubai International Airport

The Emirates First Class Lounge is a beautiful haven for Emirates First Class passengers, located at Dubai International Airport. The lounge features a spa, a cigar bar, a business  centre, and a fine dining restaurant. It also has a private suite for passengers who need to sleep before their flight. Only those with Emirates Skywards Platinum elite status or those travelling First Class on Emirates can access this lounge.

Lufthansa First Class Lounge, Frankfurt Airport

The Lufthansa First Class Lounge at Frankfurt Airport is one of the most exclusive airport lounges in the world. It features a private entrance, a personal assistant, a cigar lounge, a library, and a restaurant with a Michelin-starred chef. The lounge also has a luxurious spa with a sauna and steam room. I am also informed that there is a shower room with a full sized bath – complete with the airline’s signature rubber duck! Access to this lounge is for passengers travelling in First Class only, I am afraid.

Qantas First Class Lounge, Sydney Airport

The Qantas First Class Lounge at Sydney Airport is a stunning lounge offering exceptional services and amenities. The destination board is vintage style with letters and numbers flicking over when updated. The food is by Aussie chef Neil Perry and you can pop into the day spa for a free massage or facial. It sounds like a relaxing place to be before a long flight. The lounge is only accessible to First Class ticket holders or Platinum members of the Qantas frequent flyer program.–t1-%3Aen%3Ann

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, London Heathrow Airport

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at London Heathrow Airport is a funky and fun lounge that offers a unique airport experience. The lounge features a full-service bar, a restaurant, and a game room. It also has a spa offering complimentary hair or spa treatments on a first-come, first-served basis. The lounge is in Heathrow Terminal 3. You need to be flying Virgin Atlantic Upper Class or Delta One, (or a combination of elite status with Virgin Atlantic or one of its airline partners), to get in.

These are some of the finest airport lounges in the world. Each of these lounges offers an exceptional experience that will make your airport journey easier. If you plan to do some long haul flights or plenty of individual ones, it may be worthwhile looking into the various loyalty programs. You may earn plenty of miles or points and eventually get to pop into one of these rather splendid lounges. Well, one can dream, can’t one?
