Ebola fever in humans in mainly found in the Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Sudan, Ivory Coast, and Uganda, but it may occur in other African countries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms:<\/strong> fever, fatigue, muscle, pain, headache, and sore throat. Rabies is found throughout the world but mainly in Asia, Africa, and Central and South America.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms: <\/strong>\u2018furious rabies\u2019 results in signs of hyperactivity, excitable behaviour, fear of water, and sometimes fear of drafts or fresh air. \u2018Paralytic rabies\u2019, meanwhile, (accounting for 20 per cent of all cases) involves muscle paralysis, leading to coma and then death.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Risk to health:<\/strong> once clinical symptoms appear, the fatality rate is close to 100 per cent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vaccine available:<\/strong> yes<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wordsandimages.battleface.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/faucet-4756043_1280.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13954\" src=\"https:\/\/wordsandimages.battleface.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/faucet-4756043_1280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"726\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.battleface.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/faucet-4756043_1280.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.battleface.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/faucet-4756043_1280-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.battleface.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/faucet-4756043_1280-768x545.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.battleface.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/faucet-4756043_1280-696x493.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.battleface.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/faucet-4756043_1280-592x420.jpg 592w, https:\/\/www.battleface.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/faucet-4756043_1280-100x70.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"typhoid-fever\">Typhoid fever<\/h4>\n<p>Spread through contaminated food or water, typhoid fever (caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi) is the tummy bug you don\u2019t want. Typhoid is generally found in countries with poor sanitation, including Asia (especially India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh), Africa, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms: <\/strong>prolonged fever, fatigue, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and constipation or diarrhoea. Some patients may have a rash.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Risk to health:<\/strong> an estimated 11-20 million people get sick from typhoid and 128,000 to 161,000 people die from it every year<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vaccine available:<\/strong> yes<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"hepatitis-a\">Hepatitis A<\/h4>\n<p>A lack of safe drinking water and poor sanitation are the main drivers behind hepatitis A, a viral liver disease that can cause mild to severe illness. The disease is mainly found in low to middle-income countries around the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symptoms: <\/strong>fever, malaise, loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, dark-coloured urine and jaundice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Risk to health: <\/strong>rarely fatal, but can cause debilitating symptoms and can lead to fulminant hepatitis (acute liver failure) which is often fatal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vaccine available:<\/strong> yes<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COVID-19 may have dominated news cycles for the past 12 months, but it\u2019s far from the only infectious disease that travellers need to take seriously.
