Estonia<\/h4>\n

Estonia was the first to install an e-residency program<\/a> for foreign online entrepreneurs. Then, it announced a digital nomad visa<\/a> that allows foreign nationals to work in Estonia for up to 1 year. It also includes 90 days of travel across Europe\u2019s Schengen zone.<\/p>\n

Pros<\/h4>\n

Access to Schengen zone
\nGreat internet speeds and digital infrastructure
\nThe potential not to have to pay income tax if you stay under 183 days<\/p>\n

Cons<\/h4>\n

No way to get the approval online, need to file the visa in person<\/a> at a local embassy or in the country
\nTax residency in Estonia is complex and is likely that you will have to pay tax from your first day there
\nYour foreign employer is also required to register and pay local taxes<\/p>\n

Cost: $100 non-refundable, paid before approval
\nMiniumum annual income: $48,600
\nRequired: Private health coverage or travel insurance<\/p>\n

Dubai (UAE)<\/h4>\n

The Virtual Working Programme<\/a> (VWP) is a countrywide one-year Virtual Work Residency Visa. It allows foreigners to enter and work anywhere in the Emirates. The Work remotely from Dubai<\/a> is a different type of VWP and has a different set of requirements.<\/p>\n

Through the VWP you can access services, including telecoms, utilities, medical, and schooling.<\/p>\n

Pros<\/h4>\n

No local taxes or contributions
\nNo compliance issues for remote employers
\nAn extraordinary destination with unique architecture and multicultural environment
\nGreat local infrastructure for remote workers
\nOne of the safest countries to travel to (research and respect local customs)<\/p>\n

Cons<\/h4>\n

Confusion between the Dubai and the UAE-wide remote work visas
\nHigh minimum income requirements, especially in Dubai
\nLengthy application process
\nHigh cost of living<\/a>
\nStrong governmental influence over everyday life
\nIssues with human rights and personal freedom<\/p>\n

Cost: $611 non-refundable, paid before approval
\nMinimum annual income: $42,000
\nRequired: Private health coverage or travel insurance<\/p>\n

Croatia<\/h4>\n

Croatia offers Temporary Stay of Digital Nomads<\/a> to anyone from outside of the EU. This is for people working in \u2018communication technology\u2019. This can be as a remote employee or through their own company registered outside of Croatia.<\/p>\n

Pros<\/h4>\n

Lower entry requirements than other visas (minimum income level, visa fees)
\nZero income tax for up to a year
\nBetter-defined info and laws on tax implications than for other visas.
\nOn average, the cost of living is lower than in other countries around Europe
\nMost people speak English<\/p>\n

Cons<\/h4>\n

Possible issues with WiFi, especially on islands
\nDelicious local food but not that much choice of other cuisines
\nNot enough co-living\/working spaces and nomad communities<\/p>\n

\nRequired: Private health coverage or travel insurance<\/p>\n
