Before you go<\/h4>\n

Festivals bring people together to party and escape from the norm. So, it\u2019s best to be prepared and avoid some of <\/span><\/span>the classic festival fails. There WILL be queues – to get in, for food, drink and toilets. It WILL feel chaotic at times. <\/span><\/span>People WILL be drunk, and slightly annoying. You WON\u2019T get much sleep. Don\u2019t underestimate how much festivals <\/span><\/span>can test your patience, especially when the weather\u2019s bad.<\/span><\/span>

If you get into trouble, feel unwell or need some help, most festivals have a welfare team who are there to offer <\/span><\/span>support if you need them. They\u2019re experienced and can give confidential advice and support about alcohol, drugs, <\/span><\/span>sexual and mental health.<\/span><\/span>

How to ‘go’<\/h4>\n

Without doubt, one of the most talked about issues at festivals is the toilets! Coping with festival toilets is a rite of <\/span><\/span>passage. If you\u2019ve not been in one before – brace yourself, it\u2019s not pretty.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The first rule of festival toilets – don\u2019t put your wristband on the hand you wipe your bum with! Accept that toilets will <\/span><\/span>be dirty, especially if the weather\u2019s bad. A kidney infection is much worse than two minutes in a smelly toilet, so don\u2019t <\/span><\/span>make yourself ill by holding it in. It might be a short walk to the nearest loos and there may be queues so don\u2019t leave <\/span><\/span>it to the last minute. Carry some tissues in your pocket\/bag. Ladies, if you don\u2019t like the idea of having to hover, in<\/span><\/span>vest in P-Mates or a Shewee. Devices that allow you to wee standing up. Oh, and beware of playsuits and onesies!<\/span><\/span>

NOS Primavera Sound, Porto, Portugal: 6-8 June<\/span><\/span>
<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Portuguese counterpart of the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona.<\/span><\/span> Distinguishing itself by the variety of styles and new bands, both local and international. Headliners include Lana del Ray, PJ Harvey, and the Last Dinner Party.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Glastonbury Festival, UK: 26-30 June<\/span><\/span>

The largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world. Coming to Glastonbury involves a fair amount <\/span><\/span>of travel, and a queue to get in but, it\u2019s worth it. A huge, well-known, international line-up features at every festival.<\/span><\/span>

Donauinselfest Festival<\/span><\/span>, Vienna, Austria<\/span><\/span> : 21-23 Ju<\/span><\/span>ne<\/span><\/span>

The \u2018Danube Island Festival\u2019 is an open-air free music festival and is Europe\u2019s biggest open air event. 1500 volunteer <\/span><\/span>assistants and visible police presence help make this one of the most secure big events.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Roskilde Festival, Denmark: 29 June-6 July<\/span><\/span>

This is an 8 day-long international cultural event offering quality creative experiences. All profits from Roskilde Festi<\/span><\/span>val get donated to humanitarian and cultural work. Music, art, activism, camping and freedom.<\/span><\/span>

Exit Festival, Novi Sad, Serbia: 10-14 July<\/span><\/span>

An award-winning music festival held at the Petrovaradin Fortress in the city of Novi Sad. Considered by many as one <\/span><\/span>of the best festival venues in the world. Unique in the festival world as it started as a student movement fighting for <\/span><\/span>peace and democracy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Veszpr\u00e9mFest, Hungary: 16-20 July<\/span><\/span>
<\/span><\/h4>\n

A festival that brings the best of opera, jazz, classical, world and pop music to Veszpr\u00e9m every year. The unique expe<\/span><\/span>rience of this festival is due to the amazing locations of the concerts. Previous years concerts were held in the beauti<\/span><\/span>ful Baroque style castle district, in front of the Archbishop\u2019s Palace.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Colours of Ostrava, Czech Republic: 17-20 July<\/span><\/span>

Bukta Open Air Festival, Norway: 19-20 July<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

Taking place in one of Troms\u00f8\u2019s most popular camping and swimming spots during the summer. On a beach, sur<\/span><\/span>rounded by trees and mountains, Bukta can claim to have one of the most beautiful festival sites in the world. During <\/span><\/span>the months of June and July, the sun doesn\u2019t set on Troms\u00f8, meaning there is no night……. partyyyyyy!<\/span><\/span>

Founded back in 1980 by Peter Gabriel, Thomas Brooman and Bob Hooton. WOMAD was the first international mu<\/span><\/span>sic festival to emerge at that time. A classic world music festival which guarantees a great line up.<\/span><\/span>

Sziget Festival, Budapest, Hungary: 7-12 August<\/span><\/span>
