We provide single-trip travel medical insurance coverage with the benefits and limits listed below.

With the exception of Personal Accident and Personal Liability, all benefits are subject to an excess (aka, the deductible, or what you have to pay before we pay), as stated in the Policy Schedule, and are per Policy Period.

As you go through our purchase path, you will find an Add-ons section, where you can choose your own limit for Accidental Death & Permanent Total Disability and Baggage Loss or Delay. You can also choose to add Winter Sports and Business Extension cover.

This page is only a summary of our programme. Please read the policy carefully to fully understand the coverage, terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions. This summary does not replace or change any part of the policy. If there is a conflict between this summary and the policy, the policy will control. All benefits and limits are per person, available in USDGBP, CHF and EUR currencies. This product cannot be purchased more than 90 days in advance.

Important notes and FAQs:

  • Winter Sports optional cover, where selected, does not extend to the Personal Liability benefit under Section F of the policy
  • Travellers up to the age of 79 can purchase this product. Cover for illness is not available for those aged 75 years or over
  • Our Travel Medical Insurance product is currently not available for trips with the following destinations: Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, Crimea, South Sudan, and Venezuela

Good to know

Am I covered for delay or cancellation caused by adverse weather conditions?

battleface will reimburse your travel and accommodation costs up to 2,000 if you have abandoned your trip due to cancellation or delay of more than 24 hours in the departure of your outward international journey. This includes causes such as adverse weather conditions, strike or industrial action where the change of circumstances is out of your control (please refer to the policy wording here for a full list of what is included under this section).

Cancellation cover applies to outward travel only. There is no cover for additional expenses in the event of travel disruption or delays.

My return trip has been delayed, am I covered for any additional expenses?

battleface does not provide cover for additional travel, accommodation or other expenses incurred due to the disruption or delay of your return trip.

Does battleface cover for COVID-19?

Yes, our benefits include cover for medical expenses caused by or resulting from COVID-19 for travellers up to and including age 59. All other benefits remain available as standard for travellers aged one month or over on the date of travel and 79 years or under when the trip, for which this insurance is purchased, finishes.

We do not include cover in relation to COVID-19 expenses for trip cancellations, curtailment of a holiday or lockdowns.

Your documentation says that certain pandemics are excluded from cover, does this mean battleface will not cover COVID-19?

The statement within our product information document is to notify you that certain pandemic viruses are excluded e.g. Ebola. battleface does provide cover for medical expenses incurred by an Insured Person aged 59 years or under for the treatment of COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 and symptoms thereof, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.

Am I covered if the resort closes due to COVID-19?

We do not include cover in relation to COVID-19 expenses for trip cancellations, curtailment of a holiday or lockdowns, including resort or piste closures.

Does battleface cover trips to areas where the Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has advised against travel?

Yes, this product provides full benefits, up to the policy limits, for all destinations including countries under FCDO and government essential and non-essential travel advisories.

Can I claim for lost or stolen baggage?

Yes, battleface includes 2,000 baggage cover as standard and this can be customised up to 5,000.

There are some important limitations to cover that will apply, so please refer to section E of your Policy Document for full details. For example, we will pay a maximum of 250 for each single article, pair or set of items and up to 100 for mobile phones or smartphones. If you are planning to take expensive items such as cameras, e-readers, games consoles, laptops, mobile/smart phones, tablets, jewellery, watches or other Valuables with you then we recommend you have adequate personal possessions cover under a home contents or other insurance policy.

Please note that baggage claims are subject to the excess (deductible) and paid based on the original value of the goods, less a deduction for wear and tear and loss of value based on the age of the goods at the time that they are lost. An original receipt, valuation report or other satisfactory proof of ownership and value is required to support the claim. Evidence of replacement value is not sufficient.

Why is price my different today than when I first quoted my policy?

At battleface we’re always tracking the global travel ecosystem to ensure we’re covering the right risks at the right rates. For example, your destination country is part of our rating algorithm and if that country is high risk when you quote and then is lower risk when you buy, you may see a lower premium for your policy.

What is the battleface Winter Sports Optional Cover?

battleface Winter Sports cover, when selected, covers you for Cold-weather activities during your trip such as skiing, snowboarding and ice skating. It extends the standard benefits under sections A to F of your policy to include claims which may arise when you are participating in winter sports. No cover will apply in respect of Personal Liability claims.

Is my ski equipment covered?

Yes. Winter Sports equipment is covered up to 750 (500 per single article, set or pair). Hired equipment is also covered (300 per single article, set or pair). Exclusions do apply, so please check the Policy Document for full details.

What is the excess?

The excess for ski equipment is 50 per person or 100 per family for each incident which gives rise to a claim. Standard excesses will apply for the remaining sections of the policy.

Am I covered when skiing off-piste?

Only if you are skiing with a qualified instructor or guide. In all other cases, skiing off-piste will not be covered.

Am I covered for competitive sports?

Participation in winter sports in a professional capacity or on a competitive basis are not covered.

Do you cover extreme Winter Sports?

There is strictly no cover under the terms and conditions of this policy when engaging in freestyle skiing, ski-jumping, ski flying, ski/snowboard-acrobatics, ski snowboard stunting, extreme skiing/ snowboarding, skeleton and luge or any variations.

Do I need to declare my pre-existing conditions?

battleface will not cover any claim arising directly or indirectly from a known pre-existing medical condition. You don’t need to disclose your pre-existing conditions to us when you buy a policy but we may ask for relevant details of your medical history in the event of a claim.

What do you consider to be a pre-existing medical condition?

Any medical condition that, within the last 12 months, required any: surgery, inpatient or outpatient treatment, referrals or investigations of any sort. This includes being on any waiting list, taking any prescription medication, tablets or required medical treatment (This will not apply to common colds, flu or contraceptive medication); medical advice or treatment for any respiratory condition relating to the lungs or breathing; medical advice or treatment for any heart, stroke or diabetic condition. I can’t find travel insurance which covers my pre-existing medical condition, what can I do?

The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) has launched a travel insurance directory on its website for people with serious pre-existing medical conditions. You can access the directory: here or call 0800 138 7777.

I need a policy which covers my whole family, can I get a discount?

We offer a 10% discount as standard when you buy a policy covering more than one traveller (provided you all reside at the same address). Just add each additional traveller at the quotation stage and the discount will automatically be applied.

Am I covered if I take part in sports and activities during my trip?

This insurance excludes certain sports and pastimes. Please see the Policy Document for the list of Excluded Activities: here

Policy changes and cancelling my policy?

You can change your travel dates any time before you travel and cancellation is free within the cooling off period. For policies with a duration of one month or more, we can offer you a full refund provided you cancel within 14 days of receiving your policy documents and before the start date of your policy.

If you have already embarked on your trip, or need to cancel after the 14 day cooling off period, your premium will be refunded pro-rata from the date your instructions are received, provided you have not made a claim. For travel policies of one month or less, there is no statutory cooling off period so please get in touch with us by emailing or calling +44 (20) 80895338 and we will do what we can to help.

Can I extend my policy if I plan to travel longer?

The easiest option would be to buy a new policy, to cover the remaining part of your journey. We strongly advise that you buy cover for as long as you need in one go, although we understand that travel plans may change.

Please note that it would be subject to your continuing to meet the eligibility criteria and the pre-existing exclusion would re-apply at the effective date of your new policy. When purchasing policies while travelling cover will start 24-hours after purchase.

Availability of cover may also be limited by your location at the time of intended purchase and how long you have been there.

Who can buy?

This product is available to legal residents of the following countries: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Bulgaria, Cayman Islands, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominica, Estonia, Falkland Islands (Malvinas), Finland, French Polynesia, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Grenada, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malawi, Malta, Mauritius, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, United Kingdom, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe.

Am I eligible to purchase?

This product cannot be purchased more than 90 days in advance. You are eligible to buy if:

  • You are aged 18 years or over and not yet 80 years of age (or aged over one month old and not yet 18 years old, reside at the same address as and are to be covered under the same Policy as your parent or guardian or a legally responsible adult); and
  • You have received all immunisations recommended by your home country prior to entry into the host country; and
  • You do not at any time during the Policy Period carry any firearm or any instrument or device designed or intended to cause injury or death to another person unless you have told us in advance, it has been accepted by us and you have paid the appropriate additional premium and you are not an active member of any military or para military force at any time during the Policy Period

Child(ren) under age 18 can be added under your application and must be on the same travel itinerary as you.

Wait, any exclusions?

Yes. In addition to those mentioned above, certain exclusions apply under each section of the policy. There is also a list of general exclusions and general conditions that you need to be aware of. Due to sanctions restrictions imposed by the United Kingdom, European Union, United Nations and United States, it may not be possible for us to provide the full range of cover in one or more of the countries you plan to travel to.

Our Travel Medical Insurance product is currently not available for trips with the following destinations: Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, Crimea, South Sudan, and Venezuela.
