Filing a claim essentially involves completing a claim form. The claim form is a questionnaire meant to help you achieve the following:

  • Tell us about the incident that caused your claim
  • Specify the financial loss you want reimbursed
  • Provide evidence of the incident to support your claim

Once submitted, your claim is promptly assessed by a claims analyst who determines whether it meets the terms of your policy and communicates the outcome to you. You can start your claim here.

It’s hard for us to give definitive answers to hypothetical situations because one small detail in the situation can change everything. That said, we’ll do our best to answer your questions, or at least help you understand the policy language and how it might apply to various situations.

The cost can vary based upon your age, destination, chosen limits and trip length.

Policy excess is an amount you have to pay towards making a claim. You can change the excess value before you complete the purchase your policy.

Our two-page IPID summarises key information about your policy. It highlights some of the significant exclusions and restrictions, to ensure they have been brought to your attention before you buy. For the full wording, please refer to your policy document here.

Yes, our Single-Trip product includes baggage cover up to the limits shown on your policy. There are some important limitations to cover that will apply, so please refer to section E of your Policy Document for full details. For example, we will pay a maximum of 250 for each single article, pair or set of items and up to 100 for mobile phones or smartphones. If you are planning to take expensive items such as cameras, e-readers, games consoles, laptops, mobile/smart phones, tablets, jewelry, watches or other Valuables with you then we recommend you have adequate personal possessions cover under a home contents or other insurance policy.

Please note that baggage claims are subject to the excess (deductible) and paid based on the original value of the goods, less a deduction for wear and tear and loss of value based on the age of the goods at the time that they are lost. An original receipt, valuation report or other satisfactory proof of ownership and value is required to support the claim. Evidence of replacement value is not sufficient.

We’re always tracking the global travel ecosystem to ensure we’re covering the right risks at the right rates. For example, your destination country is part of our rating algorithm and if that country is high risk when you quote and then is lower risk when you buy, you may see a lower premium for your policy.

The Optional Activities and Sports cover, when selected, covers additional sports and activities not included in our standard policy, including Winter sports. This includes equipment loss or damage for skiing and snowboarding. It also extends the standard benefits of your policy to include claims which may arise when you are participating in winter sports. Hired equipment is also covered (300 per single article, set or pair). Exclusions do apply, so please check the Policy Document for full details.

The excess (deductible) for ski equipment is 50 per person or 100 per family for each incident which gives rise to a claim. Standard excesses will apply for the remaining sections of the policy.

Only if you are skiing with a qualified instructor or guide. In all other cases, skiing off-piste will not be covered.

Space Travel

Space Travel

We customise to your needs and focus on asset protection – covering any inheritance liability if there is a catastrophic event occurring to a launch and return vehicle resulting in the death or permanent disablement of the traveller.

Currently, there are several things to consider when looking at costs for civilian space travel insurance. Age and health status of the traveller, the type of coverage being requested, and details of the trip – distance into space, the duration of the flight, and what type of space craft will be used.

When evaluating a client’s space travel coverage, battleface’s underwriters work with a dedicated space team and a Personal Accident team at Lloyds of London. Using a scientific and measured approach, our collaborative expertise allows the development of coverage premiums for this new frontier in civilian travel.

Most insurances will void coverage if you are undertaking a more hazardous activity than that contemplated and declared on the application. battleface Space insurance has been negotiated with certain underwriters at Lloyd’s to cover these short period, high hazard risks.

In general, travel insurance is important especially if the policy was specifically built for the activities that you’re about to take. We suggest considering a travel insurance that would provide protection even while traveling to/from the space launch site.

Adventurers thinking about space travel need to consider the personal risk:  temporary or permanent disablement, medical expenses, death. They should examine the booking conditions closely to see what the cancellation conditions are, both ways, and what liability the operator has in the unlikely event of an incident.

At battleface, we believe that travel is unique to each person’s interests and needs. This embodies the origin of our principles – to create a tech platform that allows customers to build their own custom policies. Space travel versus rock-climbing or scuba diving or bungee jumping are all different when it comes to risk calculation, pricing, and available benefits. One point these activities have in common is that one-size-fits all travel insurance policies don’t work here.

With space tourism in its infancy, the risk perception is high. Earth-based adventure activities have a known risk frequency, amassed by the millions of thrill seekers who have taken part and the small percentage who have, unfortunately, been injured or worse. Those statistics are not yet available for such a new risk so rating is influenced by caution but, as time goes by, rating will start to reflect the actual risk.

Most commonly, travellers think about how to protect their trip investments, followed by potential risks when it comes to unforeseen expenses such as emergency medical treatment, evacuation and transportation back home.

Claims

Claims

If something happens before or during your trip and you want to use your travel insurance, you’ll need to file a claim with us.

We recommend bringing a print-out of your policy documents with you when traveling so if you are affected by a storm and lose power or can’t connect to the Internet, you’ll still know what number to call and what instructions to follow.

For non-emergency situations before or during your trip: document the situation as much as possible and keep receipts for any expenses incurred. If you have any questions about your situation, or you need guidance, please connect with us for a chat.

For emergency situations, or if you need assistance during your trip: we can help you with any situation and answer questions about next steps and required documentation.

Filing a claim starts with completing a claim form. The claim form is a questionnaire meant to help you achieve the following:

  • Inform us about the incident that caused your claim
  • Specify the financial loss you want reimbursed
  • Supply evidence of the incident to support your claim

Once submitted, your claim is promptly assessed by a claims analyst who determines whether it meets the terms of your policy and communicates the outcome to you. You can find your claim form here.

Travel Insurance 101

Purpose

Purpose

Travel insurance protects you from financial losses you could incur while traveling. Travel insurance is a standalone policy that can either be purchased on a per-trip basis, or as an annual policy covering multiple trips. Costs can vary based on factors like your age, the length of trip, activities you’ll be participating in, and how much you spent on the trip.

Trip insurance may cover you for  minor inconveniences, like missed airline connections or damaged luggage, to major crises, like emergency medical evacuation in a life-threatening situation. Depending on the terms of your policy, you can be reimbursed up to a certain amount for costs incurred when your holiday plans take a turn for the worse. Plus, travel insurance companies also provide 24/7 assistance to help you navigate emergency situations.

Despite your best-laid plans, sometimes the unexpected happens when you’re traveling. That’s where travel insurance comes in handy. A travel insurance policy gives you peace of mind for your trip, whether you’re vacationing, traveling for business, or even as part of an organized tour group.

And it’s more than just peace of mind. Travel insurance provides financial protection if your travel plans change unexpectedly, or an emergency happens. That may include everything from reimbursing you for lost baggage, recouping costs when you have to cancel a trip unexpectedly, or even, in a worst-case scenario, providing medical evacuation in case of injury or serious illness.

Coverage

Coverage

Travel insurance coverage can be grouped into three main categories: financial reimbursement, travel medical coverage, and 24-hour assistance. The most common type of travel insurance claim is the financial type. Depending on your policy benefits, you can submit a claim for costs incurred due to things like needing to cancel your trip (for a covered reason), trip delay or curtailment/interruption, missed connections, or lost baggage.

Travel medical coverage is an especially important benefit if you’re traveling abroad, and your everyday health insurance may not or won’t cover you. Many policies also have emergency medical evacuation available, which can arrange and pay for medical transportation to a hospital or even to your home if it’s medically necessary.

While travel insurance can provide coverage for a wide range of unexpected events, it’s important to know what’s not included. Be sure to read the specific details of your policy. Generally speaking, travel insurance won’t cover anything that doesn’t fall under “unforeseen circumstances.”

Emergency Evacuation insurance can pay for emergency medical evacuation to the nearest appropriate hospital, or even to your home, if you fall ill or become seriously injured while traveling. Additionally, our team will make the necessary arrangements on your behalf.

Yes, trip cancellation protects you if you need to cancel your trip unexpectedly for specific reasons such as an unexpected death, illness, or medical conditions; certain transportation issues or strikes; major weather issues or natural disasters; issues of personal safety and security in your destination, and certain employment-related scenarios.

Note that not all our policies include Cancellation benefits so please read your policy in full for details.

Yes, battleface travel insurance offers coverage for travel medical expenses, dental expenses, and emergency evacuation if you become ill or seriously injured during the course of your covered trip.

This benefit provides a cash payment in the event of accidental loss of life or limb during a covered trip.
