What’s included?

Please refer to your policy for additional information.

What is Trip Cancellation?

Trip Cancellation is a pre-departure benefit that can reimburse up to 100% of your pre-paid, non-refundable trip cost if your need to cancel your trip for a covered reason. The most common covered reason is unforeseen sickness, injury, or death of the traveler, a traveling companion, or a non-traveling family member, but there are many other covered reasons, such as damage to your home, being laid off from your job, strikes, common carrier delays, extension of the school year, being called to active military duty, terrorist incidents, inclement weather, or a natural disaster. In fact, there are over 20 different covered reasons. Make sure you read your policy carefully for full details.

What does Single Occupancy mean?

If your traveling companion cancels or interrupts their trip for a covered reason, but you’re still going on the trip, the per person occupancy rate cost as a single traveler can increase. This coverage can reimburse you for those extra costs.

Explain Cancel For Any Reason coverage

Cancel For Any Reason coverage is just like it sounds – you can cancel your trip for any reason –change of mind, a bad hair day, whatever. The coverage reimburses up to 75% of your non-refundable trip cost, and you have to purchase your insurance within 15 days of your initial trip deposit in order to be able to add Cancel For Any Reason coverage. What if you cancel your trip for one of the many covered reasons? You can still be reimbursed up to 100% of your non-refundable trip cost.

What is Trip Interruption?

Trip Interruption provides reimbursement for prepaid and non-refundable trip payments if a portion of a trip is missed, or if you must return home early due to unforeseen circumstances, including illness, injury, or death. As with Trip Cancellation, there are a number of covered reasons for Trip Interruption, such as terrorist incidents, strikes, hijacking, mechanical breakdown of a common carrier, a hurricane warning at your destination, and many others. Trip Interruption can also reimburse your additional travel expenses to return home.

Note: the Discovery plan offers Trip Interruption coverage of up to 150% of your trip cost, as your actual loss (when factoring in unused arrangements and extra airfare to return home) can sometimes exceed the original trip cost.

What is Trip Delay?

Trip Delay reimburses the costs of meals, local transportation and accommodations when your trip is unexpectedly delayed for covered reasons.

What is Missed Connection coverage?

If you miss your trip departure due to inclement weather or common carrier delays, Missed Connection can reimburse you for the cost of extra transportation to rejoin the trip, additional local expenses, and the cost of your missed arrangements.

What is Accidental Death & Dismemberment?

AD&D provides a cash payment in the event of accidental loss of life or limb during a covered trip. The Discovery plan gives you the option to upgrade to higher levels of coverage.

What does Baggage Loss or Delay include? What does Sporting Equipment Package Cover?

Baggage and Personal Items Loss provides reimbursement for lost, stolen, or damaged luggage and personal effects.

Baggage Delay provides reimbursement for the purchase of clothing, toiletries, and other essential items if your luggage is delayed for a specified period of time.

Sporting Equipment Package Loss can reimburse you in the event your own sports equipment is lost or damaged during a covered trip. Sporting Equipment Delay can cover the cost of renting equipment in the event your own equipment is delayed while on the way to your destination.

What does Travel Medical Expense cover?

Travel Medical can reimburse the costs to treat a medical emergency during a trip.

Note: the Discovery plan offers primary Travel Medical coverage, which means we pay first. You don’t have to file a claim with your health insurance. Travel Medical coverage also includes a benefit for emergency dental expenses.

What is Emergency Medical Evacuation?

A Medical Evacuation can be extremely costly and difficult to arrange. Emergency Medical Evacuation coverage can provide coverage for your transportation to the nearest adequate medical facility in the event of a medical emergency during your trip. Our 24-hour assistance team will make the necessary arrangements on your behalf. Repatriation of remains can transport a traveler’s remains back home.

What is Rental Vehicle Damage coverage?

Rental Vehicle Damage provides primary reimbursement for damage to, or theft of, a rental vehicle during a covered trip.

What does Pet Return cover?

If you’re traveling with your pet, and can’t continue due to your sickness or injury, we’ll reimburse you for the cost to return your pet home.

How about Pet Medical coverage?

If your pet becomes sick or is injured while traveling with you, we’ll reimburse you for necessary veterinarian expenses.

What is Vacation Rental Damage?

Vacation Rental Damage can reimburse you for the cost of accidental damage to the rental property caused by you, your family or traveling companions. Examples can include spilling wine on a carpet, breaking a lamp or window, pet damage (if pets are allowed), and many other circumstances. The coverage applies per reservation, so everyone staying in the property is covered.

What’s the maximum length of coverage for a policy?

The Discovery plan provides coverage for trips up to 90 days in length.
